SIGMA FC - C1 (1997)
Competition: SAAC Senior Showcase
Coach: John Zervos
The C1 (1997) SIGMA squad has been together for more than four years. The core group of the current roster have played together for over three full seasons after starting out as a training group within the ETC (Elite Training Centre) in 2009. In that first year, after showing a lot of promise, SIGMA coaches selected players from the ETC program and some new players from the SIGMA International ID Camp to form the core of the current C1 team. This past March, the boys travelled to Europe and played teams from Holland, Germany and Belgium. During the summer of 2011 the SIGMA C1 team captured the championship at the Score Showcase in Greensboro, North Carolina. Beyond that in 2011, the team as a U14 group participated in the SAAC U16 Showcase division where they reached the SAAC Cup final.
This season has already been an eventful one for the Sigma C1 team. In March, the team faced off against PSV Eindhoven, AZ Alkmaar, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Koln and Club Brugge.
With league play already started in the SAAC U16 Senior Showcase division the C1 team will look to continue their attractive style of football and begin to develop various part of their individual games to a higher degree.
Once again, the C1s will join a large SIGMA contingent to the Score Showcase in Greensboro, N.C. where they will defend their 2011 title.
"The boys have a great understanding of the game, so it makes everything so much easier as a coach. When you paint the picture in training or in matches, the boys understand and adapt very quickly because of their football knowledge. The pre-season camp in Europe has given our guys an understanding of where they are compared to European talent. They now know how much they need to work in order to reach their ultimate goals, be it individual or team. This year is a very important one for the SIGMA C1 team. Our focus is to make sure we always, develop each player individually in their position and play attractive football. Winning and establishing a winning mentality is important (but not the focus), but we will look to achieve these results by playing the SIGMA way." - John Zervos
