In early May, three SIGMA FC teams travelled to Erie Pennsylvania to take part in the GLA Friendly series of matches. The GLA gathers teams from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Western New York and Canada providing a full day of competition for participating teams.
SIGMA FC travelled with their U12, U14 and U15 squads to the event in order to provide their teams some good competition south of the border and most importantly an opportunity to grow together as teams. According to SIGMA FC Technical Coordinator Dave Zonneveld this was the central idea behind the two day excursion to nearby Erie, "the soccer was secondary for our coaching staff. In the end our teams won 8 matches and lost 1 but most importantly this trip provided our teams an opportunity to grow closer as a unit by increasing the social interaction of the players off the field".
Each team participated in three matches on Saturday and when all was said and done the teams had a successful day on the pitch with the U12 and U14 squads winning all their matches. The U15 squad which competes in the Senior Showcase Division of the SAAC competition finished with 2 wins and 1 loss. With those records all SIGMA Teams finished at the top of their respective age group standings for the day.
The squads will participate in other US tournaments/showcases throughout the summer season in addition to their local competition and events.
