Bekker scores both goals in Eagles win over Fairfield
Kyle Bekker returned to the Boston College Eagles lineup after serving a one-game suspension from last season and made an immediate impact, scoring twice in a 2-1 win over Fairfield.
Fresh off a summer spent training with MLS players at Toronto FC and leading Sigma FC's men's team in the Ontario Soccer League, Bekker showed that this summer was well spent. He led the 25th ranked team in the NCAA with eight shots on goal, and scored the winner in the 87th minute on a free kick from 19 yards out.
Boston College (2-0-0) will host Quinnipiac on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Newton Campus Field in a showdown of Sigma graduates. Sigma's Remere Warner is a freshman with Quinnipiac.
Sigma players face off as Robert Morris downs Pitt
Midfielder Shane Beharry and the Robert Morris Colonials got the better of the Manny Morgado and the Pitt Panthers over the weekend with a 2-1 win.
Robert Morris (NEC Conference) and Pittsburgh (Big East) are local rivals and play each other to open the season every year. The win by Robert Morris was the first for the Colonials over Pitt to start the season since 2007.
Pitt enjoyed a significant shots advantage over Robert Morris. Sigma grad Morgado had a glorious chance to equalize late in the game but had his strike stopped by the Colonial goalkeeper.
