Sigma is pleased to announce the complete recruiting class of 2009. This year SIGMA will have 7 players moving off the next level of the game. Six players have accepted athletic scholarships to play at the University level along with one player signing with Bundesliga club (Germany), Energie Cottbus.
The seven players were members of the A1 - Senior squad at SIGMA. Technical Director Bobby Smyrniotis is very proud of the players and their accomplishment "It is fantastic that we have had 7 players move on to the next level, and we are not finished yet! We had 8 players eligible to play at the University level with 6 of them signing on with top programs. Our other 2 eligible players have decided to stay in Ontario for their post-secondary education. Beyond the 6 young men moving off we have had one player make a quick transition from our club to the Vancouver Whitecaps and now to Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus. We have a couple more of our Senior players preparing for trials overseas and we hope that all will work out for them too. Our initiative at SIGMA is to provide all of our players the opportunity to play at a competitive level beyond the youth game. This was our first year with a true graduating class and it has been very successful. I look forward to this continued success with our deep pool of younger talent at the club"!
This past season the players have had the opportunity to showcase their abilities during multiple scouting weekends, showcase tournaments and training camps. Over the course of the season the senior players at the club have had six scouting weekends with a total of 15 NCAA division 1 and NAIA University coaches making the trip to the SIGMA training grounds to evaluate players. Beyond the scouting weekends, players have been exposed via showcase tournaments and the annual summer training camps which host 6 coaches from many of Europe's leading clubs along with 3 Division I University coaches http://www.sigma-sports.net/newsEvents/ajaxFifthAnniversarySuccess.html.
SIGMA looks forward to the following recruiting class and keeping up the standard set over the past two years!
