Sigma FC opened the Ontario Soccer League U21 Cup competition with wins in the first round of the competition.
Sigma A1 defeated Barrie SC 7-1, Monday night, while Sigma B1 scored a 4-1 result over North Mississauga SC. Last Friday. Both games were played at Hershey Soccer Fields in Mississauga.
Against Barrie, Sigma A1 got on the board early with a strike from newcomer Mark Wadid. After Alex Cholewinski scored two back-to-back strikes, Wadid added another to make the score 4-0 at the half.
In second half, Barrie fought back before conceding two penalty kick goals. Alex Halis converted in the 60th minute after being brought down in the penalty area after a nice one-two passing combination with Chris Nanco. Orestis Ilias scored on a nice set up from Halis about 10 minutes later.
After Barrie scored on a goal against the run of play, Cyle Larin closed out the scoring with a penalty in the 80th minute.
On Friday, Sigma B1 used goals by Andrei Pogan, Mikel Garrik, Jordan Kalonji and Adam Tyskiewicz to defeat North Mississauga 4-1.
Both teams resume play in OSL U21 Cup play this week.
Sigma B1 faces TFC in the next round of the OSL U21 Cup on Thursday, May 9th at 7 p.m. at Hershey 2. Sigma A1 faces KNSC on Friday, May 10th at 7 p.m. at Downsview Park.
