Name: Giuliano Frano
Club: Seattle Sounders 2
Giuliano wasn't drafted in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, but it didn't stop him from showing that he belongs among the best young North American players. Frano signed with Seattle Sounders II following an impressive full pre-season with the 1st team, under the direction of Seattle's celebrated MLS coaching legend Sigi Schmidt.
Frano, 22, a graduate of Boston College, took part in three preseason friendlies with the Sounders first team and impressed the coaching staff with his poise and skill in the midfield. Frano will being the year anchoring coach Ezra Hendrikson's Sounders II side in midfield with two-way play, and will be looking for an opportunity to move up to the first team.
"Giuliano has grown tremendously over the past two years as a player. The environment here at SIGMA and Boston College have allowed him to propel his game to the next level," said SIGMA FC technical director Bobby Smyrniotis. "He is joining a top organization in MLS and will have all the ability to further develop and make an impact soon in Seattle."
The Mississauga, Ont. native was a midfield stalwart for SIGMA FC's League1 Ontario side last season. He was named to the league's Next XI.
According to Smyrniotis, Frano's development over the past two years, both at SIGMA and at Boston College, has set him up well for the professional game.
"His greatest strengths are all the intangibles that make for a good pro." added Smyrniotis. "He has a great mind for the game and leads very well. In midfield he can provide a great deal of options as a ball winner, deep lying organizer, or box to box to get closer to goal and withing shooting rangeas he can really hit a ball and be dangerous on set pieces. I look forward to following his progress and expect big steps over the next year."
Frano joins Cyle Larin (Orlando City), Emery Welshman (Real Monarchs), Johnny Grant (Montreal Impact II) and Greg Ranjitsingh (Louisville City) as SIGMA FC and League1 Ontario graduates in the professional ranks in 2015
