Name: Christian Samaniego
Samaniego is a modern deep lying playmaker who combines the abilities of a traditional No. 6 and No. 10. He's intelligent in possession with precise passing, and he always provides proper support in attack while setting the tempo for his team. Defensively, Christian is a strong tackler and a master in the art of repossessing the ball off his opponent.
In Coach Smyrniotis' Words:
"Christian is member of the original SIGMA team of players born in 1995 that was assembled for an international tournament in Mallorca in the spring of 2006. In his first two years at SIGMA he had the opportunity to play the likes of, AFC Ajax, PSV, Everton, SC Herenveen and others. From 2006 until today he has grown into one of the most complete midfielders SIGMA has had the privilege of having [and we have had some good ones]. On the field he sees the game like a ready pro with an ability to read situations very early therefore making good decisions on and off the ball. In training, he has consistently been one of the top trainers who comes into each session with a desire and will to work and improve.
"I would like to thank his parents both for their time and dedication over the years as it has been a long journey in the development spectrum. I look forward to following Christian play for a nationally distinguished program in Southern Connecticut and coach Tom Lang. All of a sudden we will have a nice SIGMA rivalry in the NE10 Conference with Domenic Samuel at Southern New Hampshire and Jordan Hibbert at Adelphi University.
In His Own Words:
"I will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Conn. Although this is a big step for me, I am very excited to be a part of this excellent soccer program and can't wait to get this journey started. With SCSU's fantastic history and many accomplishments with winning nationals championships in the past, I hope to contribute more to this team and add more silverware to the school. SCSU is also a great academic school and that made my decision much easier. Knowing that I will be playing at the NCAA DII level against great competition, I hope to represent the SIGMA name with excellent game performances.
"I've been part of the SIGMA FC Academy for the last seven years and have enjoyed playing soccer here. "The coaches have played a major role in developing and helping me in becoming the player I am today. Coach Bobby has taught me from Day 1, when I first arrived at Sigma, how I can play the game better. Bobby is always pushing me to my limits and he expects a good performance each game. He is always telling me how I can improve my game to get to the next level.
"SIGMA is an excellent academy and it provides many opportunities. I just want to thank SIGMA for that. SIGMA is like a family, a good environment to be around, and most of all the best brand of soccer is played here."
