Name: Aidan Nagy
An original member of the 1995 age group squad in 2006 Aidan is known most for his ability to man the left side of the field with his tireless ability to go up and down. A technical left back who moves forward with speed, fluidity and precision. His ability to play accurately balls through the defensive lines and whip precise crosses into the box make him an positive member of any squad.
In Coach Smyrniotis' Words:
Aidan is yet another one of the original players from our inception as an academy. He is an example of development all the way through the pyramid and a great example at that. He is an excellent left back in modern football who can offer both going forward and in the back. Technically a very strong player who can play a precise ball constantly into our attackers and overlap tirelessly on the left flank sending crosses into the opponent's box. His development over the last two years has been excellent and it shows what players are capable of when dedicating themselves to training.
I wish Aidan all the best in his new challenge both on the field and in the classroom at Roanoke. He will be playing for a very good coach who has been on staff at programs such as Denver and Wake Forest. One thing that is important in the whole recruiting process is for a student-athlete to find their best fit in program, athletics and coaching fit. I believe Aidan has made a great choice for his future. Congrats to his parents Sasha and Lori for their dedication to Aidan the sport of Soccer and SIGMA FC over the past 9 years!
In His Own Words:
I've decided to attend Roanoke College starting fall 2013. The main factors that impacted my choice were the academic opportunities and the overall look of the team. At Roanoke, the classes are much smaller and thus more personal than classes at other colleges in the U.S. The smaller class sizes was a positive note for me because I know my professors will know me personally, as well as my academic strengths and weaknesses. Looking at it from a soccer aspect, the team's future looks very bright. Last year, the men's team won their conference (ODAC) but unfortunately bowed out in the first round of the national tournament. This year, they've brought in a strong recruiting class of players that can step in from the start. That combination of necessary experience and youthfulness is going to make the team a force next year. Another thing that impacted my decision was the style and fit of the team. Roanoke's style of play allows a player like me to step in and easily play the system of soccer that the coach, as well as the team desire.
My first experience with Sigma was at the original Sigma ID camp back in 2005. That experience led to the opportunity of being on the first ever Sigma team. From day one, the coaches at Sigma preached discipline and technique above all else, and that notion has stuck even now at 17 years old. Growing up within the Sigma system, the coaches gave me the confidence I needed to continue training and working hard. Without the guidance of Coach Bobby as well as the other coaches I wouldn't be where I am today. Coach Bobby has been my head coach ever since 2006 and under him I have grown substantially as a player and a person. He helped me decide when I was unsure, by assuring me that he trusts the program at Roanoke and what they are trying to do. His belief in the program really influenced my decision positively, as I was left with no doubt in my mind from then on.
It's been a great 7 years at Sigma, and I can't wait for all of the exciting opportunities that are now possible because of them. I would like to thank all of the coaches for believing in my ability and motivating me to no end. None of this would've been possible without them.
In Coach Pflugrad's Words:
"Aidan is a technical, athletic left-sided player. To go along with his talent on the field, his high character fits the mold of the players in our program here at Roanoke College. Sigma does a great job of preparing players to play and act professionally, and I believe this preparation has made Aidan well equipped for the transition to the college game."
